Christmas Doggy

Looks like Christmas Doggy got to spend Christmas break with all of his friends at Covenant Acadamy. Doggy tells me he had lots of fun and got to go a lot of places and do a lot of things with his friends. Doggy told me that Samantha took me to the mall, Easton took me to get an outfit, Ethan broke my arm, Shawntook me to Wal Mart, Shelby took me to get my flu shot, Michael played his DS with me, Emma Kate took me to Baskin Robbins for ice cream, Gunnar watched TV with me, Tony let me look at his Pokemon cards, Carter let me camp out in a tent, David played legos with me, Terry took me to a party, Naomi took me to church, Newby took me to the bank, Sydney watched Shaggy and Scooby with me, Daniel watched a movie with me, Elijah let me watch Santa Buddies. And that just a short list of what all I got to do. Christmas Doggie wants to thank all of his friends for spending time with him.

Ms. Becky dirested chapel today and did such a GOOD job. We all miss Ms. Jodie but I think Ms. Becky and Ms. Mildred had no problem making chapel a hit. And the caught being goods are everywhere. Keep up the good work everybody you really show the AWESOME work being done at Covenant.

The children are studying about Noahs ark and as you can see they had a ball making this edible snack of noahs ark. It's amazing at Ms Mildreds creativity. The kids are thankful for having such a gifted teacher. Great job on your arks everyboby.

We are asking every family to bring a HOMEMADE dessert. These desserts will be used for the meal and remaining for the auction.
All desserts should be delivered at morning drop off on Friday, March 27th. We will have someone at the school collecting those that day!

Dear Parents,

Thank you for encouraging your child to read nightly. There is no REQUIRED number of books for first or any grade.

Reading involves hundreds of small skills integrated to help correctly pronounce words and to comprehend the meaning.

Each first grader begins at his/her own level. A book is appropriate if help is needed on only one or two words in the book. Stopping to sound out words or ask for help on sight words slows down enjoyable independent reading.

A reasonable time expectation for early elementary is about ten to fifteen minutes of reading in a quiet environment.

How are we doing??? From my perspective, I've noticed improved word recall and expression during the first four weeks of school Most pupils have read 60 books or about three short books a day.

Dear Parents,

Each day your child will participate in a wide variety of mathematics activities. Your child will learn through hands-on experiences, discussion, and exploration. The new learning will be reinforces through carefully considered practice.

Our day begins with the Meeting. This is a time when we practice a wide variety of everyday skills. The children answer questions about the calendar, the daily number pattern, the weather, the attendance graph, time, & money. A "Student of the Day" assists with special tasks.

The next part of Math 1 is The Lesson. During The Lesson a new concept is presented through discussion and an activity. Concepts and skills in Math 1 include computation, problem-solving strategies, pattern identification, measurement, geometry, money, time, fractions, graphs, & charts.

Number facts are introduced using fact stratgies. We will practice the facts in class using fact cards & fact sheets. Your child will also practice the number facts at home using fact sheets. Children are encouraged to continue practicing the number facts at home using games & activities.

After each lesson we will practice the new learning, as well as concepts previously introduced, through guided written practice. The children complete and correct Side A of a practice sheet in class. Side B is your child's homework. Most problems on Side B have a corresponding problem on Side A.

Your child will have math homework four nights a week. Please assist your child by reading the problems on Side B, if necessary. Allow your child to arrive at the answers independently. Check your child's work & help your child correct mistakes. If you helped your child with a problem, please circle the problem number to let me know that this is a difficult question. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOUR CHILD RETURN THE HOMEWORK THE NEXT DAY.

Assesment of your child's progress occurs every five lessons. Each written assessment includes skills you child has been practicing throughout the year. We will strive for 80 percent mastery on all assessments. Any missed objectives will be reviewed and retaught. During our conferences, I will share with you my observations about your child's progress.

1st grade has been soooooooooooooooo busy! Let me try and remember what all the 1st grade has been doing. First of all they have been having FUN learning. Then went on an after school field trip to a museum in Viola where we all were able to go on a hay ride(Did you see our picture in the Southern Standard?) If you seen the paper I bet you seen Jonie smiling real big right up front and Carlton too. Also we had a poster contest about farming and Leslie won for our first grade class!! Not only did she win at our school she won against ALL first graders in Warren County. We have had inside-out mismatched day, Pioneer Day, green day and also 50's day! Emma's family hosted the Easter party at their house and we had FUN! Thanks Emma and family. We have also had a science fair. We are so PROUD of entire class for everyone doing a science project. We were the only class with 100% participation. WAY TO GO! For Mathematical project Emma won first place. For physical Megan won first, Leslie won second, and Jaren won third. Did you see our picture in the paper for that too? We also just had our annual Spring Fling and what fun that was!

We are so proud of the 1st grade and Kind. classes who sang at the bank Friday. What an awesome job you did. WAY TO GO!

Thanks to all of the parents who helped decorate the school float. The float was a success. It was wonderful as we were walking by to here people say how they loved the float. The kids were great they were smiling, waving and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

Field Trip and Thanksgiving Play

We have been so busy! We went last Friday to The Princess and the Pea play and then McDonald's afterwards. We had so much fun.

Our 1st grade class performed a short play on Wednesday during Chapel. The play was Dreams of Thanksgiving. ALL of the children did so well memorizing their lines. We learned that the most important thing about Thanksgiving was not the food, but about giving thanks to GOD. Jonie was the mother, Carlton was the child, Leslie was the turkey, Jaren was the yam, Megan was the apple and Emma was the pumpkin. It was very nice to see all of the 1st grade parents at Chapel.

What an exciting week it will be. Thanks Ms. Mildred for our fair gift of NO homework this week and only one book each night. Do not forget our Fair Week projects to be turned in by Thursday though.

Remember this Friday if Fair Day. If you child is participating please join us at 8:45 Friday morning on the back field at the fairground ballparks. See you at the Pole isn't groups, grades, clothes or churches. It's about praying. It's about all of us coming together and laying aside all the labels for one day simply to call out to God, just as Jesus did in John 17 and say, "Lord may we be one in you--whether jocks, preps, geeks, Pentacostals, Baptists, Catholics, one-year-olds or 4th graders--may the world believe that You are real and have sent us to touch others through You, regardless of the dividing lines drawn by a broken world!"

So are you in? Are you ready for whatever group you're in to join us in the circle?

Join your generation of faith on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 at 8:00am, Gather in the front parking lot, Unite in the name of the One Who died to save you, and Pray for our school, friends, and families.
COME TOGETHER, just as Jesus prayed we would.

P.A.T. (Parent Advisory Team) Organizational Meeting: date and time TBA; Earn one parent hour for this meeting. This is the ONLY P.A.T. meeting that counts toward parent hours.
Little Cesar Pizza Sales Fundraiser: date TBA; Earn parent hour (1) for selling more than 3 kits. Opportunity to earn parent hours by helping unload and separate orders when they arrive.
Christmas Float: P.A.T. organized; dates TBA; Earn parent hours for work on Christmas float.
Spring Fling: P.A.T. organized; Earn parent hours for baking homemade desserts (30 min. max.), setup for Spring Fling, running games, and cleanup.
Covenant Academy Annual Golf Tournament: April or May; Earn parent hours for setup night before, registration tables, hole watchers, etc.
Class party planner: Earn up to 1 hour for planning your child's classroom party (i.e. Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, and Easter). You DO NOT get parent hours for coming and enjoying party with your child. You MUST be the planner to receive hours. Your child's birthday party DOES NOT count toward parent hours.
